Risks Involved with Blogging

Although blogging has its benefits, it is not without risks. Blogging is protected under the constitutional right to free speech, however the right to free speech and expression has its limits in Canada. Major criminal charges that could arise in blogging include:
  • Blogging threats or harassing others through blogs
  • Child pornography
  • State secrets
  • Copyright infringement

More common however are civil issues involving blogs. Some civil disputes include:
  •  Intellectual property
  • Slander
  • Privacy infringement

With the popularity of blogs increasing the number of blog related court cases has also increased. In 2007 alone there were over 107 civil cases involving blogs.
